Part 3. Top 5 New Korean Drama Online with English Subtitles

1. Guardian: The Lonely and Great God

Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, or simply “Goblin” as it’s internationally known, is a South Korean drama that aired between December 2016 and January 2017 on tvN on Fridays and Saturdays. In January, over 18% of the South Korean national TV audience tuned in to watch the final episode. This made it the second-highest rated Korean drama and also saw it receive critical acclaim within the country and around the world.
It features the encounter of four characters: Shin, a goblin and soul protector; the grim reaper; Ji Eun-tak, a high school student; and Sunny, a reincarnation of Shin’s sister.

2. Witch at Court

Witch at Court is another highly popular Korean drama that is currently airing on South Korean TV station, KBS2 on Mondays and Tuesdays. The drama follows a female prosecutor who is determined to go to win cases by all means necessary, even if it means breaking the same law that she protects. She uses fabricated evidence, perjury, and personal attacks to get perceived justice for sexual assault crimes.

3. Revolution

Revolution is another Korean drama that is currently airing on Korean station tvN on Saturdays and Sundays. The drama focuses on class and society in modern Korean culture through the eyes of young Koreans. It communicates a story of love, friendships, and hopes as the youth face challenges associated with, among other things, South Korea’s widespread spoon class theory.
The series has managed to hit moderate AGB Nielsen ratings of about 3.6% in Seoul and 3.7% in the rest of the country, making it a must-see Korean drama.

4. Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo is a coming-of-age romantic sports drama that aired on MBC between November 2016 and January 2017. The TV series was inspired by the real-life events of Jang Mi-ran, an Olympic gold medallist. Even though the series generally flopped with an average of 4.6% audience rating, it became a huge hit among young South Koreans where it received stellar reviews.

5. Temperature of Love

Temperature of Love is another Korean drama that is currently being aired on SBS every Monday and Tuesday since September. The TV series is based on the Ha Mying-hee’s novel, “Good Soup Never Picks up the Phone” and follows the lives of two lovers who first meet online but then separate after their careers lead them into different paths.
The series has reached AGB Nielsen ratings of 12.9% and 11.2% in Seoul and across the country respectively since it first aired, making it a must-watch for any lover of Korean dramas.
